Itanagar, Apr 15: The Nyishi community celebrated Longte festival with traditional fervour on Monday in the capital complex.
Longte, the lone unique bloodless festival, amongst all festivals celebrated by numerous Abotani tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, coincides with New Year, celebrated in different names across the world, said Nyishi Festival Council (NFC)Secretary Amit Bengia.
While highlighting the aims and objectives of the festival, NFC Secretary said that main philosophy behind the celebration is to barricade the domains of evil spirits and human beings. This year Longte celebration has been partially affected by simultaneous Parliament and Assembly elections but still people turned out in good numbers to participate on ceremonial day at N.L Ground, Itanagar and Nyikum Niya ground, Nirjuli in the state capital region. 
In his ceremonial day address at Nyokum Lapang ground here on Monday, NFC Secretary appealed all the participants to maintain true spirit of Longte festival by maintaining peace and tranquility during the ongoing festival of democracy. He also appealed one and all to come out; exercise adult franchise to elect best and competent leader(s) to strengthen our democratic process. 
The traditional games & sports, food stalls and cultural extravaganza will be held from April 24-28 next as part of post Longte celebration, the  celebration Committee Chairman, Chera Siro informed. 
Earlier, Longte flag was hoisted by Itanagar Municipal Corporation’s Executive Engineer Er. Yumlam Take in presence of a mammoth gathering.
