HOLLONGI, Aug 7: The All Papum Poma Students Union (APPSU), along with villagers, PRI leaders, and the public, held a peaceful protest today, demanding immediate rollback of the government's notification regarding the merger of the Hollongi Check gate area under the control of Capital Police.
Addressing the media during the protest, President APPSU, Teli Sera, stated that they had already approached the authorities with their plea for a rollback of the decision. However, their demands have been consistently ignored, which prompted them to stage the protest.
The main contention of the protesters is that the Capital Police will be taking control of 60% of the Hollongi area. This raises concerns for the villagers as any legal cases or law enforcement matters in the area would require them to travel to the capital city, which they find to be impractical. They asserted that the nearby Balijan Police Station would be more appropriate to handle the Hollongi area, and the decision to merge Hollongi with the Capital Police lacks logical reasoning.
Sera also informed that the protesters expressed dissatisfaction with the government's approach, claiming that the authorities did not seek consent from the villagers, localities, PRI leaders, or the local MLA before making this decision.
We are demanding an immediate rollback of the government's order to merge the Hollongi Check gate area under the control of Capital Police. We also propose that the responsibility for the Hollongi outpost should be given to the Balijan Police Station with more strength to operate under the supervision of SP Papumpare, Sera said.
