Itanagar, Oct 21: Health and Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang on Friday flagged off five mobile laboratory units for five different districts from the premises of the Directorate of Health Services at Naharlagun.
Fitted with high-end diagnostic equipments, the five mobile laboratory vehicles - meant for Aalo (West Siang), Bomdila (West Kameng), Tezu (Lohit), Khonsa (Tirap) and Ziro (Lower Subansiri)- were procured with financial support from the NEC (North Eastern Council).
"There is lack of extensive and intensive penetration of diagnostic services in the remote areas," Libang said adding that this will help in basic lab testing facility of hematology, biochemistry, serology, and cardiology tests free of cost to patients in remote and unreached areas and will assist in speedy diagnosis, timely interventions (treatment) and controlling of various infectious diseases at the peripheral level itself.
 "Such interventions will help in reducing out of pocket expenditure thereby further reducing the physical and mental burden on the population ultimately leading to improvement in the quality of life,"  Libang said.
The Minister requested the concerned District Medical Officers to personally monitor and supervise the service deliveries and upkeep of the mobile labs so that these mobile labs serve the rural population for a longer period of time.
Director of Health Services Dr Moromor Lego and State Surveillance Officer, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, Dr Lobsang Jampa were among others present during the flagging off ceremony.
