Itanagar, Aug 9: The Li-Ning 12th DorjeeKhandu Memorial State Badminton Championship 2025 officially commenced today at the Khelo India Indoor Stadium, Itanagar, marking the beginning of a week-long celebration of sporting excellence. The championship is being held from August 9-13, attracting over 500 participants from all 28 districts of Arunachal Pradesh along with players from Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy and Rajiv Gandhi University Sports Control Board.
The grand opening ceremony was graced by MLA Dr.Mohesh Chai, who is also Advisor to Minister of Health, Commerce & Industries, as the Chief Guest, and Laisam Simai, MLA 51-Nampong, as the Guest of Honour.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Mohesh Chai lauded the dedication of the athletes and the organizing team, encouraging young players to pursue sports with passion and discipline. Laisam Simai, in his address, highlighted the growing potential of badminton in the state and commended the efforts to provide a competitive platform for emerging talents.
The Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) is hosting the championship under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and in collaboration with the Department of Sports. The event promises high-level competition, featuring matches in multiple age categories, with participants vying for top honours and a chance to represent the state at national-level events.
This year’s championship continues to honour the memory of Late Dorjee Khandu, former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, whose vision and support greatly contributed to the development of sports in the state.
The tournament is expected to not only showcase talent but also inspire the next generation of shuttlers from Arunachal Pradesh.
