Basar, Jun 26: The Leparada District Police today observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Headed by Superintendent of Police Dr. Thutan Jambey, the event aimed at spreading awareness and promoting a drug-free society.
As part of the occasion, a mixed doubles badminton tournament was held, symbolising the theme of women empowerment and the importance of unity in the fight against drug abuse. The sporting event saw enthusiastic participation from local players and community members alike.
In a thrilling final match, the duo of Yumjuk Doyom and M.K. Basar emerged victorious, defeating the formidable pair of Tomar Ango and Jaweplu Chai to claim the championship title. The second runners-up were the teams of Tojo Bam paired with Goyir Ango and D. Tojo Basar paired with Bippi Karbak, showcasing great sportsmanship and skill.
The SP lauded the participants and emphasised the role of community engagement and youth empowerment in combating the menace of drugs. The event concluded with a message of hope and collective responsibility.
