MAHADEVPUR, Jun 6: Taking strong exception to the delay in solving and granting permanent resident certificate (PRC) to the people of Lekang, several organizations and CBOs of Lekang constituency under Namsai District today held a protest rally near Dirak check gate and submitted a memorandum written in blood to the Deputy Commissioner Namsai.
Holding placards and banners, agitators held the protest near Dirak checkgate and demanded immediate granting of PRC to the people of Lekang.
Speaking to the media, President, All Lekang Students Union (ALSU) said  "The people of Lekang are not outsiders but since time immemorial they have been residing here in the same land. During the bifurcation from Assam in NEFA days, we were offered to stay in Arunachal but since then no rights have been provided to us. Therefore, the people of Lekang have submitted a memorandum written by their blood to the Chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh through the DCNamsai, demanding Permanent Residential status for the people of the Lekang circle."
We are victims of the Northeast  Reorganization Act-1971, the then Greater Assam was divided into five states and Arunachal was one of them. So, if the government of Arunachal Pradesh doesn’t want to accept us as permanent citizens of Arunachal, then they must leave us to Assam, lamented another executive member of ALSU. He also informed that the same memorandum was also submitted to the Government of Assam through Deputy Commissioner Tinsukia, Assam.
