ITANAGAR, Jun 19: In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old labourer identified as Prabash Doley, a native of Misamora village in Dhemaji district, Assam, was found brutally murdered near an under-construction building close to the Bharat Petroleum outlet in Saturday Market, Chimpu, on the night of June 18 last.
The victim, who had been temporarily residing in Sood Village, Naharlagun, was discovered lying lifeless in a roadside drain by locals, prompting immediate action by the police.
SP Capital, stated that following a written complaint from the deceased's uncle, Nandeswar Doley, the Chimpu Police Station registered Case No. 38/2025 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A police team led by senior officers swiftly reached the scene and launched an investigation.
The prime accused, identified as Tai John (26), from Rakso village, Sangram Police Station in Kra Dadi district, was arrested from his residence located directly opposite the crime spot. He reportedly ran a car wash business in the vicinity. Police stated that although the accused initially resisted arrest, he was taken into custody using minimal force and in full compliance with legal procedures.
In line with Section 176(3) of the BNSS, a forensic team from Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), Banderdewa, visited the site and collected critical evidence including a suspected murder weapon and blood-stained materials, all documented via the eSakshya application for legal transparency.
The body of the deceased has been shifted to R.K. Mission Hospital Morgue for post-mortem examination. Several eyewitnesses have come forward, and their statements are being recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
Initial findings suggest that the motive behind the murder may have been an argument sparked by construction-related noise near the area.
The Police have assured that all angles are being thoroughly investigated, and every effort is being made to deliver swift justice in the case.
