ITANAGAR, Jan 7: Member, National Commission for Women (NCW), Shyamala S Kundar as part of her tour to Arunachal Pradesh today participated in a review-cum-coordination meeting organized by the Department of Women and Child Development here at the Conference Hall of the Civil Secretariat.
While opining that coordinated efforts by the WCD Department, police and the State Women Commission are essential for empowerment of women in the state, Kundar asked the police department to conduct awareness programmes in schools and colleges regarding women-related laws. She also asked the department to prepare a booklet on women laws and schemes and its wide circulation in schools and colleges and training of women police officers on a regular basis. 
Secretary, WCD Niharika Rai while briefing on the concerned  departments working in the state informed that even during COVID pandemic the One Stop Centres, Women Help Lines, supply of SNP etc. continued to function. 
Deputy Director, Department of Women & Child Development, N. Ringu made a detailed presentation on women-centric schemes implemented in the state, namely the One Stop Centres, Women Help  Lines, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Swadhar Greh, Mahila Shakti Kendra, National Crèche Scheme, Working Women Hostel, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 etc.
DIGP Hq Madhur Verma and DIGP (Planning) Romil Baaniya presented the statuses of utilization of Nirbhaya fund in the state and briefed on the steps taken to control crimes against women. The presentation also highlighted the current status of women police stations in the state. Capital SP Jimmy Chiram made a PowerPoint Presentation on the status of crimes against women and children in the capital and the initiatives taken to curb growing cybercrimes. 
Chairperson, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) Radhilu Chai Techi presented the status of crimes against women in the state and mentioned the recommendations the Commission had made  to the state government. Chairperson, Oju Welfare Association Ratan Anya deliberated on the working methodologies of the NGOs engaged in various women-centric programmes like Swadhar Greh, Children’s Home etc. She advocated the need for more awareness programmes at Panchayat level on One Stop Centre so that more women in distress can get help from it.
Joint Director, WCD P.E. Angu, SDO ICR Sangeeta Yirang and officials from the OSC and Women Helpline participated in the meeting.
