ITANAGAR, Jul 22:  A youth body -- Arunachal West Parliamentary Youth Reformation (AWPYR) has leveled serious accusations against Kiren Rijiju, Minister for Earth Sciences and Member of Parliament from the western constituency of Arunachal Pradesh, alleging repeated failures in addressing public grievances.
The AWPYR held a press conference at the press club on Saturday, during which Chairman, Taro Sonam Liyak expressed the organization's concerns regarding Rijiju's silence on the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) cash-for-job scam. This controversial scam had resulted in the detention of several youths under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA).
Liyak highlighted that despite being elected by the people of the western constituency, Rijiju failed to stand up for their voices during the APPSC scandal. Furthermore, the cabinet minister had not made any public statements concerning the contentious APUAPA, drawing criticism from the organization and the public.
Rijiju, who also held important portfolios as the Union Law & Justice Minister and the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sports & Youth Affairs, faced further accusations of neglecting the law and order situation in the state. The AWPYR further accused him of deliberately ignoring the chaos that prevailed due to the APPSC scam, which raised serious concerns about governance and accountability.
Moreover, the AWPYR raised issues about the lack of infrastructure development in Rijiju's constituency during his tenure as a central minister. The chairman asserted that despite holding influential positions, Rijiju repeatedly failed to address the needs of the public and foster meaningful progress in the region.
As a result of these serious allegations and public discontent, the AWPYR and the people of Arunachal Pradesh have called on Rijiju to reconsider his decision to contest in the upcoming general election as an MP, asserted Liyak.
