Anini, Sept 24: The Idu Mishmi community celebrated Keh-Meh-Ha, their traditional agricultural festival, with great enthusiasm at Rehko, Anini today. The festival, which marks the harvest season of paddy and other crops, serves as a joyful reminder of unity, tradition, and gratitude to nature.
Chief Guest Bekir Nyorak, Deputy Commissioner Dibang Valley, encouraged the community to preserve their rich heritage and safeguard their mother tongue for future generations. Guest of Honour Col. Rajesh Barsain, Dy. Commander 117 Mtn Brigade, extended warm greetings and expressed gratitude for being invited to share in the joyous occasion.
Festival President Naso Miri and General Secretary Ashish Mano led the celebrations, which showcased colourful cultural performances by Idu Mishmi men and women in their finest traditional attire. The vibrant dances and songs drew loud applause, reflecting the pride and spirit of the community.
Adding a special touch, the organising committee embraced an eco-friendly initiative by reusing plastic water bottles from last year’s celebrations as stage decorations. This creative effort sent a strong message against single-use plastic and highlighted the community’s commitment to protecting the environment.
The day concluded with cheer, laughter, and a renewed pledge to uphold the traditions, values, and sustainable practices that make Keh-Meh-Ha a true celebration of both culture and nature.
