YINGKIONG, Jun16: In a major boost to adventure sports and tourism, a team of Arunachal Pradesh Kayak and Canoe Association (APKCA) successfully carried out the Yamne river expedition in Upper Siang district recently.
The 3-day expedition began on June 13 from Gobuk village and culminated at the Yamne-Siang confluence in Ponging village which is about 30 kilometers from Pasighat on Tuesday. Till now, the 64 km stretch was unexplored, depriving the outside world of learning about its adventure sports potential. It was the first ever historic riverine expedition down the Yamne river, saturated with eddies, pillows, puller, suicidal falls, holes, drops and numerous rapids ranging up to class-V, making it a great choice for kayakers and rafters alike. Reportedly, the team spent one whole night in a rescue mission after a kayaker went missing at Sijon Hells of Door Rapid following a major accident. The missing kayaker was later rescued during wee hours. The APKCA team has expressed gratitude to Director Tourism Abu Tayeng, Director Sports Authority of Arunachal Gumnya Karbak, Upper Siang District Police and the Adventure Officer, Yingkiong for constant support.
According to APKCA Yamne is one of  the best kayaking rivers in the world like Kaituna river in New Zealand, Sognefjord in Western Norway, Saint Charles in Quebec, Canada etc.
