PASIGHAT, Jul 18: Taking serious note of the reports of several cases of Japanese Encephalitis in East Siang district, Pasighat East MLA, Kaling Moyong inspected the Bakin Pertin General Hospital on Wednesday.
The MLA accompanied by health officials inspected the hospital wards where a JE positive baby boy of one year six month is admitted. After the visit, Moyong briefed the media about his visit and said that there is no need to panic although several cases of JE have been detected in the district. “I have been informed by the DMO and Jt. DHS that a total of 20 cases of JE were detected positive, but all are not that serious and many were sent home after formal medication. But to contain spreading of JE, I have assured sanctioning Rs. 5 lakhs for procurement of fogging machines and other preventive measures,” he added.
Meanwhile, DMO and Jt. DHS, BPGH Pasighat have also informed that there is nothing to panic as the situation is under control. “As a precautionary move, I would suggest removal of  pigs reared in and around residential quarters/homes as pigs are the main sources from where diseases like JE pass on to humans through mosquitoes,” said DMO Dr Kaling Dai. As a part of the team, Green Dreamers, an NGO will embark on fogging and similar mosquito repelling activities.
Meanwhile, Adi Students Union (AdiSU) has appealed the state’s Health Minister to supply antidote for JE to every health facility in the affected districts.
