ITANAGAR, Apr 18: Former Chief Minister of the state and National General Secretary of Janata Dal(Secular) Gegong Apang has demanded that re-polls should be free and fair and there should be no repetition of April 11  glitches.
The Election Commission on Wednesday announced re-polling on April 20 next in 19 polling stations spread over 8 districts after the election process in these booths were suspended on April 11 following reports of malfunctions and damages of the  Electronic Voting Machines.
Addressing a press conference today at Arunachal Press Club, Apang claimed that despite tall claims made by the government, there is no improvement in EVM voting system as malfunctions of EVMs were detected in many places owing to which poll process was either delayed or suspended. Expressing serious concern over reports of violence and intimidation of election officials in many places, the former CM alleged that there was lack of preparedness on the part of the government to conduct the elections.
“Proper security arrangement was not made. Adequate security personnel were not deployed which led to violence and damage of EVMs in many places,” lamented Apang while seeking for full-proof arrangement during re-poll.
JD(S) MP candidate from West Parliamentary, Jarjum Ete also expressed serious concern over EVM malfunctions. Claiming that polling couldn’t be started on time in many places due to malfunctions of EVM and VVPAT, Ete also said that the election preparations were not up to the mark and need of the hour is to immediately rectify them before re-poll. “Re-polling should be conducted peacefully and successfully without EVM malfunction and violence,” Ete asserted.
Among others, the party’s MLA candidates, Nyadar Loya, Takum  Kabak, State President  Rokom Apang also attended the press conference.
