Rono Hills, Aug 19: Rajiv Gandhi University’s Department of Social Work in collaboration with Gandhi King Foundation, Hyderabad and Gandhi-King Global Initiative, Stanford University Centre, USA is organizing a 3-day Online International Conclave titled “Intrinsic and Instrumental Significance of Mahatma Gandhi for a Self-Reliant India” which commenced from Wednesday through the Google Meet platform.
RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha chaired the inaugural session and Christian Bartolf from the Gandhi Information Centre, Berlin delivered the keynote address. Bartolf highlighted Gandhi’s messages of joyful human labour and Sarvodaya and Professor Kushwaha called upon the participants to emphasise on the concepts of ‘swadeshi’ and honesty as propounded by the Mahatma. Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Tana Showren and Managing trustee of Gandhi King Foundation, Telangana- Prasad Gollanpalli were the other dignitaries who addressed the inaugural session. Head, Department of Social Work and Convenor of the e-Conclave Dr. Kaushalendra Pratap Singh spelt out the prime objectives of the programme. Assistant Professor and Convenor Dr. Ravi Ranjan Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
During the first plenary session, advocate from Telangana High Court Dr. Raghu Kumar spoke on “Harmonious Co-Existence: Fundamental tenets of Gandhian Philosophy for A Global Citizenry” and Dean of Studies from Gandhi Research Foundation, Jalgaon, Maharashtra Dr. John Chelladurai spoke on “Swadeshi, Swaraj and Self-Sufficiency: Doing it the Gandhian Way”. The first technical session and final session of the inaugural day was chaired by Professor Prasanta Kumar Ghosh during which a total of twelve research scholars from across the country presented their papers on various principles and practices related to the Gandhian philosophy.
Scholars of national and global eminence who shall be enriching the e-Conclave will include Associate Dean, Tcop Dean's Office, University of South Florida Professor Yashwant Pathak, President, Pietermaritzburg, Gandhi Memorial Committee, South Africa David Gengan,  Executive Director, Centre for Science for Villages-Wardha, Dr. Soham Padya, Chairman, Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education, Ministry of Education, GoI Dr. W G Prassanna Kumar and Dr. Debidatta Aurobinda Mahapatra from the School of Politics, Security & International Affairs, University of Central Florida.

A total of 45 research papers have been shortlisted for presentation by scholars and social scientists across the country. There will be awards for three best papers namely the Gandhian Social Thinker Award, Gandhian Practice Model Award and the Empathetic Gandhian Thinker Award. RGU PR
