NAMSAI, Oct 1: One Amardeep Ram (35) was allegedly beaten to death by the management of Namo Buddhaya Foundation Rehabilitation centre at 2 Mile near here on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, the victim's wife Sunita Ram said that her husband Amardeep Ram fled from the rehab on September 28 last complaining of physical assault. However, on the same day the staff from the rehab came and took him back.
She said on September 30, the officials from the rehab came to her house and asked her to take the body of her husband from the hospital, which was very surprising. The officials had admitted the deceased at the nearby hospital.
“At the time of admission to the rehab, I was told that no money is being charged for treatment. However, the officials have been asking for money repeatedly. How can I provide money when I have no earnings,” she said.
She said her husband was already dead in the hospital. She also questioned the officials for who will be responsible for taking care of the children’s future.
Meanwhile, Investigating Officer T Padung said the police received an FIR from the deceased wife on Friday. Subsequently, the police have arrested Chow Senakung Mein, Chow Upadha Manchey and Jiten Sonowal.
“We received FIR, and according to it the deceased was manhandled in the rehab which caused his death. A case has been registered in PS Namsai case no. 67/22/US 302/34 IPC,” he said.
Padung also said that the investigation into the case is at a very early stage and the police are making efforts to find that there is involvement of more people into the death of the deceased.
