ITANAGAR, Nov 17: Governor BD Mishra said Indian diplomacy today is at its best since independence. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our approach today is ‘we matter’, which is important for the dignity of the nation and for the prestige and honour of every Indian. The Governor was addressing the National Seminar ‘Act East through Northeast: India’s way to a new era of Diplomacy’ in Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), Itanagar on Friday.

The Governor suggested that to realize the goal of development of the Nation, every plan, action and policy must be national interest oriented. It must be with a mantra of ‘integrity, honesty, accountability, audit and midcourse correction’. Along with it there must be good diplomacy, strong preparedness, beneficial mutual business policies and contribution of technocrats and scientists.  

Saying that North East Region has great potential like hydropower, minerals, fertile land, pristine environment and abundant forest cover, he said the region is important for national security too.

All the eight North Eastern states have almost similar geography, demography, assets and challenges, he said and added that they need to be considered as one entity.

The Governor emphasised that the development of the region must not be piecemeal but with an integrated approach, focused on ‘PHIRAN’, which stands for Power, Highways, Inland Waterways, Railways, Airway and electronic and communication Network.  He also stressed on peace, stability and good law and order environment, within the region and also in the neighbouring countries, like Myanmar and Bangladesh in addition to maritime security along the sea route.

The Governor also released a book ‘Us Raat ki Subah’, a novel on social issues related to women of Arunachal Pradesh, authored by Tumbom Riba Jomoh, Assistant Professor, DNGC, on the occasion. He complimented Jomoh for the novel and said that it is a reminder to all men to stand for human dignity and importance of enabling the women and girl child to progress and develop to their full potential in society.

DR NT Rikam, Principal, DNGC, Dr RK Mandal, Head, Department of Economics, DNGC and convener of the seminar, Dr Imankalyan Lahiri, General Secretary, Jadavpur Association of International Relations (JAIR), Kolkata also spoke on the occasion.

DNGC in collaboration with Jadavpur Association of International Relations (JAIR), Kolkata organised the two-day National Seminar at its campus. Participants from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, Symbiosis School of International Studies, Pune, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, Indian Council of World Affairs, New Delhi, Netaji Institute for Asian Studies, Kolkata and Rama Krishna Mission Vidyalaya, Belur Math  participated in the seminar.
