Namsai, Apr 15: The Index Testing Campaign in Namsai was launched on Monday along with the rest of the nation by the Deputy Commissioner of Namsai, C. R Khampa from the OST Cum FI ART Centre, District Hospital Namsai. 
Index testing is the testing of all the contacts of People Living with HIV (PLHIV) such as sexual partners, injecting drug partners, mother and siblings of PLHIV less than 19 years of age and children less than 19 year if Index is a woman.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the campaign is being launched in Itanagar Capital Region & Papum Pare and Namsai districts, the two districts with ART Centres. 
Speaking on the occasion the Deputy Commissioner asked everyone especially the field level workers to work wholeheartedly in identifying and ensuring that all the eligible contacts are tested. He said that he has full faith in the NGOs working in the district under the leadership of the District AIDS Control Officer (DACO) to achieve the goal of 95% of HIV positive in the district knowing their status and further linking and putting 95% of those detected on treatment. He said that the District Administration will extend all possible help in carrying out this exercise. 
Earlier the District AIDS Control Officer Cum District TB Officer, Dr. P. Tala, informed everyone present that the campaign will be carried out in 2 phases, the 1st phase of which is being launched in all the districts with ART Centres all over the country will be from April 15 to June 30 next. Phase 2, which will be for the remaining districts in the country and will be held from July 1 to September 30 next. After the campaign period is over, the Index Testing Services will become a routine activity, he informed. He requested all the stakeholders, especially the PHLIVs in the district, to cooperate in this campaign.
