ITANAGAR, Jan 25: The National Peoples’ Party (NPP) Arunachal unit has urged the state government to resolve the long pending Assam –Arunachal boundary issue as per the Tarun Chatterjee  Committee recommendation.
Standing in solidarity with the villages of Papum Pare district affected by the  recently held  regional committee on Assam-Arunachal boundary meeting, NPP State General Secretary (GS) Paknga Bage reasoned that the dispute arose because local representatives were not included.
Addressing media persons at the Arunachal Press Club here today,  Bage said "The Tarun Chatterjee Commission constituted in the year 2007 realized that some part of Arunachal Pradesh was taken to Assam side; hence it recommended for 3-5km aerial distance from the constitutional boundary to be returned back to Arunachal."
The NPP also called for upholding the decisions made during the Namsai Declaration 2022 for resolving the Assam-Arunachal interstate boundary issue.
NPP further criticized the regional committee of Arunachal Pradesh for not including any local representative from the affected villages in Papum Pare district and insisted that the committee should be reconstituted with a local representative. "The committee should be reconstituted with either a panchayat leader, gaon burah or a village elder who knows the history. Then only will the regional committee be able to come to a logical conclusion,” Bage said.
The party has proposed that all level talks for the Assam-Arunachal boundary issue should be done in line with the Tarun Chatterjee Commission recommendation.
