ITANAGAR, Oct 1: Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Saturday organized mass social service within its municipal jurisdiction from Itanagar to Banderdewa to celebrate the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Speaking to reporters, IMC Mayor Tame Phassang said though such cleanliness is being carried out on a regular basis in all 20 wards, the only difference today is that it is a mass cleanliness drive. Also, besides commemorating Gandhi's birthday, it is also a part of Amrit ka Mahatsov celebration.
Phassang informed that the IMC has procured a customized Compactor machine which will soon reach the capital within a couple of days. With its coming, the work related to cleanliness will be minimized. Likewise, the IMC has procured an automatic sweeping machine, which will soon be launched.
“Moreover, the IMC with discussion with the state government has approved a crematory machine for Hindu public settled in the state capital. Likewise, specific area for a systematic burial for both Hindu and Muslim is also in progress,” he said.
He said that IMC has so far installed signage in most of the places in Itanagar for public convenience. Also, the same kind of signage will be soon installed at Naharlagun and its adjacent areas, he added.
Phassang, while not disclosing much detail into surprise for the public of Ward 17 said that the central government has approved a special scheme which will be disclosed soon. He said such kinds of schemes will also be provided to the rest of the wards but as of now the scheme will be implemented in ward 17.
“I appeal to the public of ICR to not only be confined and active in cleanliness drive programmes but also take up individual responsibility in maintaining cleanliness, greenery and pollution free Itanagar,” he said.
