ITANAGAR, May 31: Inspired by Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s Act East Policy, premier professional institute—The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), functioning under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Corporate Affairs is initiating ‘Swavlamban Samagar Shiksa, Samagar Vikas’   a fee waiver scheme specially  for students of the Northeast from June 1.    

Speaking to reporters at Press Club today, President ICSI Shyam Agarwal opined that the institute has more than a lakh students from all over the country but there are only a handful of students from Northeast who opt for this profession. ‘People here are not aware of this profession which offers immense career opportunities. Besides Doctors and Engineers, one can make sound career in this profession,’ he added.

Agarwal, further informed that in view of the rising of professionals joining mainstream corporate world since last few years, the institute has resolved to extend a helping hand to the people of Northeastern states in pursuing this profession.

Under the Fee waiver scheme, every student from North East state would get free registration from 1 June 2017 to 31 March 2018 next for various Company Secretaries courses like Foundation and Executive Programme. Students with 10+2 can join the course and for guidance a Study Center has been setup at Commerce Department, Rajiv Gandhi University.

While giving more input about the courses, Vice President ICSI Makarand M Lele informed that any student of any stream except Fine Arts, with no age bar can avail the opportunity. A regional office and exam center is also at Guwahati, added Lele while informing that a two day national conference of ICSI will be held at Shillong from June 24 to 25 next.

While responding to query on placement after completion of courses, the Vice President said there is  huge opportunity where big corporate hire  successful candidates.  After three year course, one can be  absorbed  as Compliance Officer, Governance Professional, Board Advisor, Secretarial Auditor and Corporate Laws Expert.

Among others, Chairman North East chapter, ICSI Amit Pareek, Professor Commerce Department, RGU  Sanjeeb K Jena also spoke on the occasion.
