PASIGHAT, Oct 18: Girl students of sixteen secondary and higher secondary government schools including KGBV were provided hygiene kits (sanitary napkins) on Monday at the Sikshak Sadan, Pasighat. The program was sponsored by the Oil India Limited (OIL), Dhuliajan, Assam under Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) on the account of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Senior Manager, Naina Dutta and Assistant Manager AP Das of OIL (CSR) were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu stated that in India, menstrual practices are still clouded by taboos and socio-cultural restrictions for girls and women. Though menstruation is a natural process, most people, even women, hesitate to talk about it and as a result, most of the girls and women of our country are unaware of the menstrual hygiene-related practices that they should be adopting. These unhygienic practices lead to a lot of infections such as fungal infections, urinary tract infections, reproductive tract infections etc. Every adolescent girl should have sound knowledge of menstruation and menstrual hygiene-related practices, added Taggu in his address.

DDSE Adhuk Tabing asserted that such awareness program will not only boost the confidence of girl students but also improve their attendance in school during their periods.
