ITANAGAR, Jan 4: Hundreds of people today staged a dharna in front of the District & Session Court Yupia expressing their resentment against the bail pleas filed by two of the accused in the heinous murder case of  Techi Meena Lishi and her unborn child.
Members of the United Leil Tara Youth Foundation (ULTYF), Save Arunachal Save Indigenous (SASI), Tanii Development Forum (TDF) and family members of late Techi Meena and other well-wishers joined the sit-in. Two of the accused, Kapwang Letey Lowang and Taney Khoniyang filed bail petitions before the JMFC, Yupia and the same was listed today for hearing. However, bail pleas of both were rejected. Public Prosecutor (PP) Manoj Saikia who represented the deceased family members informed that the judge has rejected the pleas observing the sensitivity of the case. “Moreover, both the accused had past criminal records and one of them also has connections with some underground elements,” the PP said.
Meanwhile, the father of deceased Techi Kak has demanded that no bail should be granted to any of the accused until her daughter gets justice. He further urged the authority to deliver capital punishment to the accused so that such heinous crimes are not repeated in future.
“We cannot dictate the court but we have faith in the judiciary that no one will get bail in this case,”  President, ULTYF Tana Sushil said while appealing to the state government and concerned authorities to try the case in a fast-track court so that exemplary punishments are given to both the accused. He also urged the legal counsels of the accused to avoid taking the cases keeping in mind the brutality shown by the offenders.
Demanding a fast-track court for the case, Chairman TDF Hage Halley urged all not to make the case a political issue or give room for political interference. Chairman, SASI Debia Muj expressed resentment that the state government is yet to issue a direction for a fast-track court in the case. “It is a very heinous crime and never ever in the state such a crime was executed.
The authority should constitute a fast-track court and solve the case within a few months,” Muj stated.
It can be recalled that Capital police have arrested at least seven persons in connection with the case. They are Kapwang Letey Lowang, Taney Khoiyang, Damriet Khoiyang, Roni Lishi (victim’s husband), driver Dathang Suyang, Vijay Biswas and Chumi Taya (26).
Techi Meena Lishi and her unborn child were murdered on November 5 last at Karsingsa.
