ITANAGAR, Sep 12: A mass protest rally in Itanagar witnessed the participation of hundreds  representing various organizations and the general public to voice their demand for the immediate cancellation of the appointments of 2596 Non-APST (Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe) candidates in the Postal Department.
Carrying placards and banners, the protesters marched from the Akashdeep complex to the Tennis Court, located near IG Park, on Tuesday.
Addressing the assembled crowd, Raj Pao, Chairman of the Indigenous Movement Against Corruption & for Reformation (IMAC&R), revealed that despite submitting memoranda and holding meetings with Postal Department officials, no concrete solutions have been offered thus far. He emphasized that these job positions are intended for local residents only and called for revisions in the recruitment rules.
Pao, highlighted a crucial issue in the recruitment process, stating, "Currently, eligibility criteria include proficiency in Hindi and English, which are not native languages of Arunachal."
He underscored the existing unemployment crisis in the state and expressed dissatisfaction over the mass recruitment of Non-APST individuals, which he believes deprives educated local youths of job opportunities. Additionally, he appealed to all Gaon Burahs (village headmen) and Panchayat Members not to provide any documents or support for individuals seeking No Objection Certificates (NOC) or other verification processes.
The conglomerate of various organizations is demanding the implementation of Local Language/Dialect criteria recognized by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in the GDS (Gramin Dak Sevak) Recruitment Rules under 3.B II (ii) of the Postal Department. They also insist on the possession of domicile certificates from the state for which the candidate has applied, along with appointments of APST unemployed youths for 866 Branches offices in Arunachal. Further, they called for the immediate cancellation of previous appointments of Non-APST candidates in Arunachal Pradesh and a halt to the ongoing recruitment process of Non-APST individuals for 866 branch posts in Arunachal Pradesh.
