ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Hundreds of people from all walks of life joined the mass peaceful protest rally organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Delimitation Demand Committee (APDDC)  from Nyokum Lapang to Tennis Court Itanagar, demanding immediate implementation of the delimitation process in the state as per the Delimitation Act, 2002.
Speaking to the media, Chairman- APDDC Adv. Regum Nabam  informed that the committee is demanding immediate implementation of the Delimitation Act, 2022 in the state for equal democratic right, equal and proportionate representation for both assembly and parliamentary constituencies.
PIL has been already filed to implement the delimitation process in the state as per the Delimitation Act, 2002.Assam has already started the process, whereas  Arunachal Pradesh is yet to implement it, Nabam said. "Therefore we urge the state government to initiate the process for equal rights and equal opportunities," he added.
The APDDC also threatened that if needed it will resort to hunger strike. "The entire country is enjoying the delimitation rights except for four northeastern states comprising Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Assam, however, Assam has started its process," Nabam said while condemning the fact that the "state is being deprived by its own government since the time of Congress and the BJP now."
