ITANAGAR, Jul 25: A massive candle light march organized by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Arunachal Pradesh saw hundreds of participants, including youths, students and the public, expressing solidarity with Manipur and condemning the recent sexual assault incidents against women in the state.
The march held on Tuesday evening, commenced from Akashdeep complex and culminated at the Tennis Court. Participants held up placards, banners, and lit candles to show their support for the victims and their families.
Chello Meme, the President of AAP Women Wing in Arunachal Pradesh, addressed the media during the event, emphasizing that the march was not intended to politicize the issue but to stand united against the ongoing crises in Manipur. "As women, we can feel the pain and mental trauma those women had to face in the Manipur incident," she said, adding "not all members are affiliated with politics but most of the participants are youths, students and the public who have come voluntarily, to demonstrate their collective concern for the safety and well-being of women not only in Manipur but everywhere in the world."
She further, questioned the silence of both the BJP-led Manipur government and the central government on the matter, highlighting the need for immediate action to address the persistent crime wave in the violence-hit state.
