MEBO, Oct 29: In a deeply disturbing incident, the hostel warden of Sanggo Residential School in Mebo, East Siang district has been arrested for allegedly sexually molesting several minor students.
According to police sources, the accused was taken into custody after multiple complaints were lodged by the victims’ parents and school authorities. Preliminary investigations revealed that the warden had been engaging in inappropriate behavior with the students over a prolonged period.
The East Siang Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused is currently under interrogation. Authorities have assured stringent action, emphasizing that crimes against children will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Superintendent of Police (SP) East Siang, Pankaj Lamba, confirmed the arrest and stated that the warden’s identity would be revealed after the formal registration of the FIR. A team from the Women Police Station (WPS), Pasighat, has visited Mebo to conduct further investigations and record statements.
The victims are being provided medical care and psychological counselling. Parents reported that their children had swollen private parts, prompting them to withdraw the boys from the hostel and seek immediate treatment at a nearby hospital. After much coaxing, the children later revealed that the warden had repeatedly molested them and even showed them pornographic videos.
District officials have also ordered an internal inquiry to strengthen monitoring systems in residential institutions across the region and ensure the safety and protection of all students, added the SP.
