Arunachal's Lindum Kiaka bags women's title

ITANAGAR, Nov 1: David Kumar of Himachal Pradesh won the 5th MTB Tawang Challenge in the men's senior category while Arunachal's Lindum Kiaka won the women's title.
Overall, Kumar clocked  9 hours, 2 minutes and 6:625 seconds to beat his nearest competition Prakash Thapa of the Indian Army's Adventure Wing who came second (9.28:05:121). Saurabh Singh of the Army's Adventure Wing took the third spot.
Tsewang Norboo of Leh clinched the men's Junior title clocking 8 hours, 25 minutes and 26:166 seconds. Arjun Subba of Assam and Chomson Ngemu of Arunachal Pradesh came in second and third place.
Lindum Kiaka of Arunachal Pradesh won the women's title while Madhya Pradesh native Hemlata Dhakad came in second.
The National level Cross Country stage event was flagged off from Tawang on October 29 last and comprised a 3-stage competition: Tawang to Dongsengmang (approx 70 kms), Dongsengmang to Zemithang (approx 70 kms) and Zemithang to Y Junction (approx 54 kms).  The three day event which concluded on Monday was organised  by the Directorate of Youth Affairs in collaboration with Arunachal Cycling Association (ACA) and Cycling Federation of India (CFI) coinciding with the Tawang Festival 2022.  The competition saw participation of many reputed riders from all over India including technical officials from the Cycling Federation of India and state officials.

Speaking to Eastern Sentinel, Secretary ACA, Taka Tamut stressed on the need for change in people's  perception towards cycling as a professional sport. "Cycling is an Olympic event and there is a need for parents and society to realise this. We are extremely grateful to the Department of Youth Affairs for their handholding at the grassroot level to promote cycling ," he added.
