Yingkiong, Oct 9: All 22 Tuberculosis patients of Upper Siang district were adopted by Alo Libang, Minister, H&FW, WCD & SJETA and MLA Kanggong Taku on Saturday for two years under the banner of Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
To mark the occasion the District Health Society (NTEP), conducted an “Awareness Meeting on TB” at Community Health Centre, Geku.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Taku said that unlike yesteryears, TB is no more a dreaded disease in presence of effective diagnostic and treatment services and therefore discriminating and stigmatising TB patients should not happen anymore.
While raising concern about the infliction of youths with TB in his locality, he appealed to the youths to adopt healthy practices to remain disease free. While appreciating the NTEP Team, he appealed to all stakeholders in the society, particularly PRIs to work together to eliminate TB from the district before 2025. He wished that Upper Siang stands No. 1 in overall health scenario.
On the sidelines of the awareness programme, Taku further appealed all PRIs and public to maintain conducive working atmosphere and to give full co-operation to leader and Govt officials for overall smooth development.
Dr Kaling Tato, Medical Officer In-charge opined that various health initiatives by the government require active coordination and participation by all stakeholders of the society. People have to change their mindset that health issues are solely the responsibility of health department alone, he said.
Earlier, in his key-note address, Dr Ahik Miyu, District TB Officer highlighted purpose of the meeting. He discussed the cause, signs and symptoms of Tuberculosis, high-tech free diagnostic and treatment services available in the district, various financial incentives including the Ni-Kshay Poshan Yojna.
He expressed his gratitude to the Minister and MLA for having adopted all the 22 TB patients currently undergoing treatment in their respective constituencies. DIPRO
