ITANAGAR, May 20: The apex body of the Galo community, the Galo Welfare Society (GWS) has reiterated its demand and urged the state government to immediately post Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police in the already notified Lower Siang district without further delay.
Alleging the government of resorting to delaying tactics in making the Lower Siang district fully functional, the apex body also questioned the formation of several committees on the issue.
GWS also expressed its resentment over the Adi Baane Kebang’s (ABK)recent resolution adopted during its referendum rally held on April 30 last, While condemning the resolution, the society demanded immediate revocation of the said resolution terming it as ‘illogical and one that may ignite communal tension amongst the two peace loving communities.’
Addressing the press conference GWS General Secretary, Dr Mige Loyi informed that the Lower Siang issue is decade’s old demand of the people residing in the foothill areas and nobody should politicize and paint it in a communal colour.
‘ABK is a reputed organization so they should refrain from using any kind of derogatory remarks that hurts the sentiments of other communities,’ he added.
While responding to the query on whether the GWS is ready to have a round table discussion with ABK to resolve the Lower Siang district issue, Dr Loyi categorically stated that the society is ready to resolve the issue provided ABK first revokes its resolution taken in the referendum rally.
