2nd Paralympic Games 2017

ITANAGAR, Mar 21: The second edition of Paralympics Games 2017 got underway at Sangay Lhaden Sports Complex, Chimpu on Tuesday. The three-day mega sporting event featuring 12 sporting disciplines is organised by Arunachal Pradesh Paralympics Association (APPA) in association with the Department of Sports. Altogether 180 Para Athletes and 30 Technical officials are taking part in this mega competition.

Parliamentary Secretary for Sports & Youth Affairs Nyamar Karbak and Chairman Sports Authority of Arunachal Bamang Tago attended the inaugural function as chief guest and guest of honour respectively. 

Speaking on the occasion, Karbak lauded the organizing committee for taking up such important initiative to make the differently abled people realize that they are not weak, but they are equally strong and can achieve anything.

“Being differently challenged doesn’t make you a weak person,” said Karbak, while encouraging the participants not to be demoralized because of their disabilities. You also can equally excel and make your career through games and sports, said the Parliamentary Secretary while exhorting the participants to work hard with a positive frame of mind.    

Reacting to the reported duplicate certificates being circulated to avail government service under sports quota in government department, Karbak informed that the state government under the leadership of present chief minister Pema Khandu is strictly monitoring the reported leakage/forged certificates and no duplicity would be entertained in the selection process. 

No one can fool anyone in this age of information technology, he said while cautioning that anybody found indulging in such practice would be dealt strictly as per the provision of law. 

“Only talented and deserving persons would be given opportunities to absorb in the government service under sports quota,” he asserted.   

While responding to the memorandum submitted by the organizing committee, the Parliamentary Secretary assured to look into the demands seriously and matter would be taken up at department level for necessary approval from government. In this regard, he directed the Director Sports to initiate the process at the earliest.

Chairman Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) Bamang Tago also appreciated the committee for organising the event despite financial constraints. He assured to extend every possible support to APPA in organising similar event next year throughout the state. He also assured to take up matter related to differently abled people for their upliftment in government level, so that equal opportunities may be availed by them in every department.
