Itanagar, Sep 29: The District Olympic Coordination Committee, led by its Chairman, Dikto Yekar, called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.) at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar today. The committee briefed the Governor regarding challenges in strengthening the sports activities in the State and the need for better coordination with the State Olympic Committee to enable the selection of the best talent from the districts.
The Governor advised the DOCC to actively identify and nurture talented sportspersons from rural areas, ensuring that every able-bodied individual with an interest in games and sports is given an opportunity to pursue their passion. He highlighted the importance of having sports medicine experts and proper facilities to guide and support young athletes, noting that the youth of Arunachal Pradesh hold immense untapped potential.
The Governor further reminded the Committee that with India placing its bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and the Olympic Games in 2036, it is not just a matter of national pride but also a call to action. He urged the District Olympic Coordination Committee to motivate the young people of the State, especially aspiring sportspersons, to dedicate themselves with discipline, determination, and hard work so they may one day represent the nation and shine on the world stage.
The Governor also emphasized that sports and fitness are not meant for athletes alone, but are essential for every citizen. A healthy and strong nation, he said, is not built by champions in the arena alone, but by a society that embraces fitness, well-being, and an active lifestyle as part of everyday life.
