ITANAGAR, Jun 20: In the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, the foundation day of  West Bengal was observed at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar in traditional Bengali fervour today. Large number of people from West Bengal residing in Arunachal Pradesh participated in the programme, which was graced by Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik, (Retd.) and the First Lady of the State Anagha Parnaik.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor greeted the people of West Bengal and conveyed the best wishes of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He urged upon the people to celebrate the vibrant, bold and multicultural spirit of Bengal, which has been the harbinger of modernization in fine arts, textiles and traditional cuisines.
The Governor said that Bengal has always contributed to the growth and nation building. He recalled the contribution of socio-cultural reformists, i.e. Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Swami Vivekananda, cultural exponents, i.e. Rabindra Nath Tagore, Kazi Nurul Islam and Satyajit Ray and freedom fighters i.e. Subhash Chandra Bose and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.   
The Governor said that there is much for the people to learn and imbibe from the cultural capital of India, West Bengal. He suggested imbibing the ethos and spirit of diverse culture entwined with national spirit that pervades in the State.
A cultural programme, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Bengal was presented on the occasion by the participants. Kathak Guru Amit Kumar Mukherjee of Nrityangan Dance & Music Academy, Itanagar performed Rabindra Nritya ‘Akash Bhora Surjo Tara’, while Smt Aditi SinhaRoy presented Ravindra Sangeet ‘O Amar Deser Mati’.  Senior students of Nrityangan Dance & Music Academy, Itanagar presented a traditional Folk Dance of Bengal.
The Governor and the First Lady hosted a high 
tea for the participants.
