Itanagar, May 28: In a promising step towards uplifting marginalized communities through education, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), awarded scholarships to four outstanding students from the Puroik community. Each student will receive a scholarship of `7,000 in recognition of their academic excellence in the Class X and Class XII board examinations.
The recipients, Peter Hally and Chintek Sanjay (Class XII), along with Barji Siji and Chintek Mekam (Class X), were selected for their remarkable academic performance, despite facing social and economic hardships.
The awards were granted from the 'Governor’s Excellent Awards' corpus fund, established specifically to support educational advancement within the Puroik Welfare Society. This initiative reflects the Governor’s ongoing commitment to championing education among the most underrepresented communities of the state.
While approving the scholarships, the Governor expressed his hope that this small yet significant gesture would serve as a beacon of encouragement for other young learners from the Puroik community. He underscored that education is the most powerful tool for transformation, and wished that many more children from the Puroik community could pursue their dreams.
The Puroik community, indigenous to Arunachal Pradesh, has historically faced socio-economic challenges, including the burden of bonded labour and systemic marginalization. The community has made significant strides toward integration and empowerment in recent years. However, educational attainment among the Puroiks still lags due to a long history of unawareness and limited access to learning opportunities. Initiatives like these scholarships are vital in bridging that gap and nurturing a culture of academic aspiration.
This initiative by the Governor stands not just as an act of recognition, but as a message of hope that no child should be left behind, and every student, regardless of origin, deserves the chance to learn, grow, and shine.
