ITANAGAR, Feb 8: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd) presented the Governor's Gold and Silver Medals to Assam Rifles personnel at Raj Bhawan here today.  The ceremony was organized for the investiture of the medals to the awardees. The highlight of the function was the paying of complements to the meritorious soldiers of Assam Rifles for their selfless duty, professionalism and gallant action in service of the nation.
While, complimenting the award winners, the Governor said that the Assam Riffles personnel because of their exemplary sense of duty have made the Assam Rifles the object of praise for every citizen of the North East India.
"The dedication and contribution that the Assam Riffles have given to the North Eastern region in everything is highly commendable and appreciated," he added.
Brig. Swan Sing, VSM Sector Commander, 25 Assam Rifles while thanking the Governor and congratulating the award winners, said the Assam Rifles is the oldest para military force dating back to 1835, raised under the name Cachar Levy.
In the Northeastern states, the Assam Rifles is the specialized force that carries out Counter Insurgency Operations and border guarding along the Indo-Myanmar border in the most inhospitable and treacherous terrain and adverse weather conditions. The Force with its rich history extending over 187 years speaks volumes of its glorious achievements, unflinching loyalty and supreme sacrifice in the true tradition of Indian Army.
In all 17 personnel were conferred medals which included 7 Gold and 10 Silver.
The First Lady Neelam Mishra, Air Commodore, RD Mosabi (Retd), Brig, Anirudh Konwar, Chief Engineer Project Arunank BRO, Officers, JCOs and other Ranks were present amongst other at the award function.
