PASIGHAT, Apr 16:  After attending the fourth and final randomization process, held at the DC’s conference hall, the Election General Observer, Dilip Routray today visited the Media Cell constituted by the East Siang DEO. The GO while interacting with the MCMC members this morning reiterated that it is mandatory for all to take prior approval from the MCMC for posting poll-related advertisement in print media, electronic or on the social media platforms.
Stating that the MCMC plays a crucial role in electoral process, Routray further said the committee must keep a close watch on the election-related posts being put up on all the platforms. The committee assigned by the DEO is responsible for keeping check on the poll-related activities and monitoring print as well as electronic media during the electoral process aiming to prevent paid & fake news/information from getting played / published. The candidates from all political parties and independent candidates are broadcasting election-related advertisements through electronic media including TV channels, radio, print, social media and other audio-visual media outlets are covered by the MCMC and therefore must be pre-certified by MCMC. Any paid news published in any media comes to the notice of the committee, will have to be informed to the candidate(s) and also the expenditure of the paid news shall be added to the poll expenses of the candidate(s), the GO added. He commended the hard work of the East Siang Media Cell for necessary and wide publicity (related to upcoming elections).
