DAPORIJO, Dec 10: Upper Subansiri District Farmers Society in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised “Gaon Chalo awareness cum Pre Rabi campaign" programme here on December 8. A first of its kind in the district, hundreds of farmers from all over the district along with dignitaries attended the programme. Deputy Commissioner, Danish Asraf graced the programme as chief guest.
The main aim and objective of the programme was to stop people from migrating to Daporijo from remote villages and to create self-employment opportunity in the village by engaging themselves in farming. 
A presentation was given by Totok Leriak Tamin, General Secretary, Upper Subansiri Farmers Society. 
Nyape Bam, in-charge Senior Scientist & Head of KVK Upper Subansiri explained about Pre Rabi campaign, sustainable farming, Seed replacement, nutrient conservation, dual cropping and also explained the mandated activities of KVK. He also urged the farmers to change from subsistence farming to commercial farming with the help of KVK and told them about ill effects of using high dose inorganic chemicals in farms to human health as well as soil health. 
Arvind Pratap SMS(Agronomy) also explained about Rabi crop cultivation and shared achievements of KVK in imparting new technologies to the farmers through on farm trial and front line demonstrations. He urged the people of Upper Subansiri to create signature crop for the district by taking advantage of its diverse climate especially people of Taksing circle where off season crops can be grown and supplied to the entire district. 
While addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the idea of the programme and appealed to the farmers to engage in cultivation for self employment and asked the farmers to take maximum benefit of soil health card scheme. He told the farmers to discuss suitable schemes for agriculture and allied activities under Gram Panchayat meeting.
