PASIGHAT, Jun 27:  Member of Lok Sabha, Tapir Gao, expressed confidence that the ongoing issue of stapled visas issued by China to the sportspersons of Arunachal Pradesh would be resolved under the leadership of External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gao, Maharashtra firmly condemned China's practice of issuing stapled visas, emphasizing that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India, and the claim made by China over the region is unjustified.
China's practice of placing staples on visas against the people of Arunachal Pradesh has been a recurring problem, hindering the participation of sportspersons from the region in international events and denying them rightful recognition on global platforms. However, the Government of India has consistently stated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of the country and does not require stapled visas. Gao expressed confidence that the Indian government, under the leadership of Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will work towards resolving this issue.
Gao further highlighted that the staple visa issue is not limited to Arunachal Pradesh alone but also affects regions such as Ladhak and Jammu & Kashmir. He expressed confidence that the Ministry of External Affairs would address this issue effectively and ensure that the athletes are not deprived of participating in sports events due to stapled visas.
As the Monsoon Session of Parliament is approaching, Gao assured that the issue would be raised in the house. He emphasized that if China continues to issue stapled visas, it would prevent players from Arunachal Pradesh from participating in various sports events, which is unacceptable.
While responding to query on the intrusion of China in Arunachal Pradesh, Gao clarified that China has not captured any land in the region. The developments being made by China near the borders are in areas that were occupied by them during the 1962 war. Gao added that there have been no reports of new intrusions by China in Arunachal Pradesh at present.
Gao also criticized the previous Congress regime for avoiding discussions on the Arunachal-China issue. In contrast, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the BJP-led central government has responded strongly to every move made by China against Arunachal Pradesh. Significant improvement in road connectivity across the region, with neglected border areas now witnessing the development of road communication infrastructure under the current  BJP government,  he added.
