ITANAGAR, Mar 22: In a significant crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, Chimpu Police seized 4.497 kg of cannabis and arrested four individuals involved in an organised drug network linked to Assam. This operation follows the police’s recent success in dismantling a major heroin syndicate.
In its press statement, SP ICR informed that, on March 17 last, during a routine naka checking at Chimpu Check Post, police intercepted a scooty and discovered 1.440 kg of cannabis hidden under the seat. Two individuals, Lijom Dulom (20) from Sikarijo, Upper Subansiri, and Bhai Dobin alias Tumjum (19) from Airport Colony, Upper Subansiri—both residing in Chimpu-I village—were arrested. Their interrogation led to a follow-up operation.
Acting on intelligence inputs, police arrested two more suspects on March 20: Narayan Mahanand (25) and Sanjay Kumar (23), both residents of Boroi Bagan, Biswanath, Assam. The operation resulted in the seizure of an additional 3.057 kg of cannabis, two mobile phones, and a Yamaha FZS motorcycle (Reg. No. AS32A-5431).
A case has been registered under Chimpu PS Case No. 23/2025 U/S 20(b)(ii)(B) & 27-A of the NDPS Act. Further investigations are underway to trace the main supplier and dismantle the network.
The successful operation was led by SDPO Itanagar Kengo Dirchi, Vibu Krishna, IPS (P), and Vivek Maurya, IPS(P), under the supervision of SP Itanagar Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS. It was executed by Inspector N Nishant, SI T Bakhang, SI T Nabam, SI S K Jha, ASI Manish Kumar, ASI (SG) G Sangey, HC J Romin, HC G Padu, and L/HC N Sora, with crucial support from the Chimpu-Gohpur Market Committee and Chimpu Youth Organization.
The Itanagar Capital Region Police has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
