NIRJULI, Apr 20: In a major crackdown under the ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, police teams from Nirjuli and Papu Hills carried out two separate anti-drug operations on April 19, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of a total of 51.45 grams of suspected heroin.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the Nirjuli Police team, led by SDPO Naharlagun Rishi Longdo and OC PS Nirjuli Inspector T.M. Nekam, conducted naka checking at Dikrong Colony. During the operation, two individuals traveling on a two-wheeler were intercepted. On personal search, the police recovered 12 vials and a tobacco container filled with suspected heroin weighing approximately 30.42 grams.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Almaz Ali (20), a resident of Bedlangkhaili in Assam’s Chirang district, and Ajaharul Islam (21), from Pandhuwa in Lakhimpur district.
In a separate but related operation near the Railway Station at Tarajuli, a team from Papu Hills Police Station led by Inspector Torum Mai swung into action following a tip-off about possible drug activity. The team apprehended Roshidul Hoque (27), originally from Bishnupur, Lakhimpur, Assam, currently residing in Niti Colony, Yupia-II. A personal search led to the recovery of five vials of suspected heroin. Upon further interrogation, the accused revealed the location of a hidden stash, which led the police to recover 11 additional vials from a nearby premises. The total quantity seized in this operation amounted to 21.03 grams.
Both cases have been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the respective police stations in Nirjuli and Papu Hills. The operations were conducted under the overall supervision of SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo, IPS, who lauded the efforts of the dedicated police teams. He praised their swift action and commitment to combating the drug menace in the region, reinforcing the police department’s resolve under Operation Dawn 2.0.
