ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The Hollongi Indigenous People’s Forum(HIPF) has threatened to call bandh if the government failed to change the name of the Donyi- Polo Airport, Itanagar to Donyi-Polo Airport "Hollongi" within the stipulated time frame.
Speaking to the media at the Press Club today, Vice Chairman- HIPF Anthony Yuwa informed that the forum had staged a dharna earlier related to the same demand, but the state government has not responded till date. If the authority continues with this attitude towards our demand we will be compelled to resort to democratic movement like hunger strike or Hollongi area bandh from November 7 to 8 next, he asserted.
"History is proof that Hollongi was established before Itanagar, but today its identity is in danger and it may lose its existence," claimed Yuwa while appealing Chief Minister Pema Khandu to invite the Hollongi Indigenous People’s Forum(HIPF) for a discussion and to take a resolution on the nomenclature of the Green Field Airport.
