ITANAGAR, Jun 9: Former Minister Bida Taku has announced plans to organize a sit-in protest on June 10 at the Tennis Court, Itanagar seeking unconditional release of all detainees arrested under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, during the 72-hour bandh from May 10 to 12 last.
Addressing the media at the press club on Friday, Taku expressed his disappointment over the re-arrest of social activist Sol Dodum and four others, who were initially scheduled to be released on June 7. District Magistrate Talo Potom ordered their return to police custody, sparking outrage.
Referring to his interaction with the activist, Taku said that Dodum revealed that the re-arrest occurred after they refused to accept a condition imposed by the administration, which forbade them from raising any issues against the government. The District Magistrate recorded the entire incident in a live video, which quickly spread across social media platforms.
Taku called upon the public to join the 'dharna', emphasizing that Sol Dodum and the four others have agreed not to support 'bandh culture' in the future, however, remain unwavering in their resolve to raise their voices against corruption in the state, regardless of which political party is in power. "They intend to pursue all available democratic means to fight for their cause. Sol Dodum and the others have made it clear that they will not sign any documents containing conditional terms for their release," Taku added.
Highlighting the unconstitutional nature of the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities Preventive Act (APUAPA), the former minister urged the state government to release all detainees without imposing any conditions.
