PASIGHAT, Mar 15: Much to the joy of young football enthusiasts in East Siang District, former Indian football skipper, Baichung Bhutia with his coach and trainers of Baichung Bhutia Football School, Sikkim on Friday started trials and assessment of young footballers of Mebo Sub-Division.  Mebo MLA, Oken Tayeng, ADC Mebo, Sibo Passing, EAC Nancy Yirang Modi, host of public leaders and members of Kiyit village based group ‘Yondip’ were also present.
The kick-off ceremony of the training which will be held from March 14-21, will see the participation of more than 250 young football players including young footballers from Doimukh under Papum Pare District. The young footballers ranging from age 13 to 19 years for both boys and girls are registered and they will undergo rigorous training on basics of footballing and its disciplines. The necessary support for training like football, football nets, foods, jerseys etc are being sponsored by the Mebo MLA, Oken Tayeng as part of his personal commitment and initiative to nurture young football talents of his Assembly Constituency and Arunachal Pradesh.
While speaking at the sidelines of the training and addressing the young footballers, Baichung Bhutia said that his football academy will recruit and select the best players and later provide them with sponsorship and scholarship.  “Since last 15 years we have been training and coaching young footballers in Baichung Bhutia Football School, Sikkim and many of them have played for India and other leagues. I am told by your MLA, Oken Tayeng that many young footballers of your area, Arunachal Pradesh have talent for football, but due to lack of proper training and coaching you are not able to play for regional and national level football. So, on the initiative of your leader, MLA Oken Tayeng, we are initiating this training programme here after we had a discussion on the matter during my last visit to Pasighat for the Northeast connect conclave,” said Bhutia.
Meanwhile, Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng quoted the beginning of the football training with the support of Baichung Bhutia Football School, Sikkim as ‘a promising beginning’! “The trials and assessment of young footballers in collaboration with the esteemed Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools team, marks a significant step in nurturing grassroots talent,” he add
