ITANAGAR, Jul 6:  Former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and incumbent MLA, Nabam Tuki, has written a letter to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, seeking information and feedback on the implications of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) for the North Eastern states and tribal communities in the country. Tuki, expressed concern about the potential impact of UCC on minority groups, such as Buddhists, Christians, and others, who have traditionally followed local customary laws.
The Uniform Civil Code has attracted significant attention in recent days due to the government's emphasis on its implementation. Given Kiren Rijiju's past experience as the Union Minister of Law, he is recognized for his expertise in legal matters and in-depth understanding of the potential consequences of such policies, added Tuki in his letter.
Tuki further highlighted the ongoing discussions on the Uniform Civil Code in various media platforms and emphasized the need for a careful examination of its implications for the North Eastern states and tribal communities. These regions are known for their diverse cultures and unique customary laws, which have been followed for centuries. Tuki stressed the importance of considering the sensitivities and specific needs of these communities when formulating any legislation that may affect their way of life.
