Deomali, Jul 10: The National Fish Farmer Day was celebrated today on by the Department of Fisheries, Khonsa in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Tirap. 
The programme was initiated with an opening speech by DFDO, J.K. Jawal where he highlighted the history and significance of this special day.
Circle Officer Deomali, D Baham thanked the fish farmers of the district for their contribution to the fishery sector. He encouraged them to work hard inspite of challenges  for overall development and assured to provide help in every way possible.
During a brief technical session, Subject Matter Specialist (Fishery),  Phurin Songtheng, spoke about 'Good Aquaculture Practices' and urged the farmers to adopt scientific mode of management for overall growth and development of their fish pond. Fishery officer, Toni Apang, SMS(Animal Science) Dr. Parimita Dutta, SMS (Agronomy),  Arvind Pratap also spoke to the participants. 
Three best farmers were awarded with cast net as a token of appreciation. Later a farmer-scientist interaction was held to address queries of the farmers.
