ITANAGAR, Dec 19:  Information & Public Relations Minister Bamang Felix has requested telecom players to improve digital connectivity in the state. In a meeting with BSNL, Airtel and Vodafone representatives here at his office this morning, Felix reviewed the status of cellular network connectivity in the state.
The Minister stressed on erecting new mobile towers to connect those unconnected regions for which the State Government has already framed a policy to provide land and Right of Way.
Emphasising the importance of connectivity, Felix said that road, rail, air and digital connectivity are on the top list of the Government. He added that while road, rail and air connectivity have got a major boost in the recent times, development of digital connectivity is gradually taking shape with PSUs like BSNL and private players like Vodafone and Airtel giving utmost importance to enhance cellular connectivity in the state.
The Minister cited that many districts like Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Dibang Valley, Anjaw, etc, still do not have cellular connectivity and the existing ones need to be improved. He requested the service providers to take extra interest in connecting these unconnected areas and improve the existing service.
The cellular companies shared the challenges being faced by them during setting up of network services due to tough terrain and other related issues. Meanwhile BSNL agreed to share their tower with Airtel and Vodafone keeping in view the difficulties faced by both the service providers in finding feasible land for installation of mobile towers.
Airtel representative agreed to shift the existing tower ‘Cell On Wheels’ (COW) from Nyapin since it has been hampering landing and taking off of helicopters as it very near to the Helipad.
The representatives assured to give their best service to the people on which the Minister opined to frame a time to complete their work. He assured full support for smooth and effective management of the cellular service in the state.
Among others, Prince Dhawan, Special Secretary IT, Arun Siram, Addl. GM, BSNL, S.N. Lakra, DGM, BSNL, Yogesh Yadav, ZSM, Airtel, Sanjib Bora, GM, Corporate Affairs Vodafone Ltd. and Mohammad Manir Alam, representatives of Airtel were present in the meeting.
