PASIGHAT, Nov 25: Chief Information Commissioner, Major Gen (Retd.) Jarken Gamlin stressed that “facilitating information under the RTI Act is an integral part of public services to keep our citizens informed as Transparency and Accountability are key cornerstones of public service in a democracy”. The CIC said this during a one-day sensitization programme on Right to Information Act 2005 for FAAS , PIOs , APIOs and RTI Activists organized jointly by the Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission, Itanagar in collaboration with District Administration, East Siang today at PMC Conference here today. The roles and responsibilities of First Appellate Authorities (FAAs) PIOs and the objectives of RTI Act 2005 were thoroughly disseminated by the Resource persons comprising of CIC and his team members.
The interactive session with the State Information Commissioners also facilitated in raising many practical difficulties faced by the PIOs at the ground level.
Earlier,State Information Commissioner, Khopey Thaley highlighted various provisions of RTI Act with special references to important court decisions. He also outlined the role of Public Information Officers(PIOs) as facilitators between the applicant and the public authority. While SIC Dani Gambo, threw light on practical issues related to RTI and the RTI sections under APRTI Rules 2005 and also shed light through detailed examples. State Information Commissioner, Vijay Taram, highlighted on Section 20(I) ( 2) and Section 25 of the RTI Act on the powers entrusted on the Commission and the penalty and disciplinary provisions for non- furnishment of information.
East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu hoped that the sensitization workshop for the government officers and stakeholders functioning as PIOs and APIOs of their respective departments will be much benefitted by the interactive awareness session and thorough understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
