ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Er. Marcony Potom, Former General Secretary of Galo Society (GWS) and Superintending Engineer in the UD & Housing Department passed away in Guwahati today. He breathed his last at Apollo Excel Care Hospital, Guwahati on Wednesday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest on October 13.
Late Er. Potom was born to Late Remar Potom and Yumjum Yinyo Potom on 1st of September’ 1968 at Degi Potom village of Darak Circle, West Siang District. He completed his B.E. Degree Course from Veer Sundra Sai University of Technology, Orissa in 1990 and joined as J.E. PWD, Aalo the same year.
At the time of his demise, he was serving as Superintending Surveyor of Work (SSW) cum the Joint Director, Urban Development and Housing Department. He served the Galo Welfare Society in the capacity of General Secretary, (GWS) and as member of the Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum.
He leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son.
His mortal remains have been taken to his hometown Aalo, the headquarters of West Siang District.
Condolences have poured in from all sections of society including chief minister Pema Khandu following his demise.
Late Er. Marcony Potom served the state government and the people of Arunachal Pradesh with diligence, sincerity and dedication. In his untimely demise the state government, particularly the Department of Urban Development & Housing, has lost an engineer and an officer of exemplary calibre. The void he has left will be difficult to fill in.
Besides being an honest and upright government officer Er. Marcony Potom was a true social activist. His contributions to the society as General Secretary of the Galo Welfare Society, member of the Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum and various other forums and platforms will always be remembered.
May Lord Buddha bless the departed soul with eternal peace in heavenly abode and give strength to you and your family to bear the irreparable loss.

Late Potom was an avid sportsman, and was known, especially, for being extremely passionate about playing badminton. By nature, he was very much a family man, a very sincere & efficient engineering officer, social, cordial to everyone he would come across, considerably visionary about life, and discreetly a very jolly person.

Late Potom was well known in the society as a very sincere, hardworking, talented, helpful, jolly and a person with vast technical knowledge. He was well known as a very active person in working for any greater cause of the society and was one of the active Advisors of team Galo Welfare Society (GWS) (2022-25) till his last breath besides being a former General Secretary of GWS.
