BANDERDEWA, Apr 6:  Giving its clarification on the anticipated shortage of PDS items during the lockdown, Food Station Depot of the Food Corporation of India, Banderdewa has confirmed that Capital Complex and Papum Pare district have enough of these items to tide over the period.
“People of Papum Pare and the state capital don’t have to worry about PDS items as FSD-Banderdewa has provisions to the tune of 40,000 quintals of rice which will be sufficient for at least three more months,” informed TAG-III-FSD, Banderdewa N Borah. There are at least 14  FCI stores in the state and the Banderdewa depot has a capacity of 50,000 quintals, whereas the requirements for Papum Pare and  Capital Complex is 10,000 quintals and rice quota for the month of April has already been issued and within a few days the May quota will also be released, the official added.
Borah also informed that besides regular supply, another 2000 quintals of rice will be released soon under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) that will be distributed free to the needy people during the lockdown period. When asked about any problems faced by them during the lockdown, he informed that as the PDS items are being transported from Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh by goods trains, there are no issues in transportation but problems are occurring during loading and unloading.

“All PDS items come under essential items, hence there are no issues while transporting. But we have to face problems in loading and unloading the goods, as due to lockdown labourers have to restrict their movements,” Borah informed.
When asked about maintaining the Covid-19 safety protocols, he informed that labourers are being instructed to frequently wash their hands with sanitizers and wear masks.
