NAMSAI, Nov 11: More than 16 shops were reduced to ashes in a fire incident that occurred in the wee hours of Friday at 2nd Mile, Namsai. The bursting of more than 10 LPG cylinders further added fuel to the fire however no one was injured in the incident.
Two fire tenders from Namsai Fire station, one from Tezu and one from Doomdooma, Assam were called in to douse the fire. Furthermore, personnel from 186 Bn CRPF also rendered their services to prevent the fire from spreading.
“Responding to the SOS call, fire and emergency services team rushed to the spot but couldn’t control the fire from spreading further despite their best efforts," said a victim who lost all his belongings in the mishap.  
The shops burnt were mostly dhabas and restaurants. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained. Loss assessments were carried out by the Department of Disaster Management to release immediate relief to the fire victims, informed officials.
 Meanwhile, MLA Namsai Chau Zingnu Namchoom, ZPC, Namsai Nang Urmila Mancheykhun and officials from District Administration and DDMA also visited the site and interacted  with the victims.
