PASIGHAT, Aug 23: East Siang District administration has lifted the ban on the import of fish from other states, but the ban on import of formalin-preserved fish will continue. The fish import ban was imposed in the district last month in the wake of formalin scare and it was lifted Wednesday night.
The government had banned the import of fish in June after the Food and Drugs Administration’s (FDA) initial report confirmed the presence of formalin, a toxic chemical,  in them. Formalin is applied on fish imported from outside the state as a preservative, according to the FDA.

As per the order of the DMO, the ban on imports of fish has been lifted and now vendors are permitted to sell fish but it should be formalin free.
